Boot Hoists

What is a Boot Hoist?

A Boot Hoist is fitted into the back of your vehicle which allows you to store a scooter, wheelchair or power chair in the back of your vehicle with just a touch of a button. They are extremely easy to operate and are powered by your vehicle so no modifications are needed on your mobility device.

We fit a huge range of Boot Hoists from three of our trusted suppliers, Autochair, Bryg-Ayd and elap . This page is meant to give you a brief overview of the different products that we can fit to your vehicle. We understand that this is a lot of information so if you would prefer to give us a call on 01325 389900 to talk through the options we would be happy to help you make a decision that is right for you.

How do Boot Hoists work?

There are a wide range of hoists available on the market, the main options are 40kg, 80kg, 100kg, 150kg or 200kg hoists. These hoists vary so much due to the size and weight of the power chair as well as the car that they need to fit in so it really is best to call us to discuss your options, however we have highlighted some of the main information below.

A Platform Hoist/ Platform Lift

A platform Boot Lift is an alternative to the hoists which are detailed below. A platform lift allows you to lift and load a wheelchair straight into the boot without you having to fold the wheelchair. You are also able to lift the chair with very little manual exertion and it can be securely fixed to the platform before you load the chair. Platform hoists are a bulky alternative and you need a lot of space in the vehicle to fit a platform hoist so bear that in mind when thinking about your options.

Two Way Hoist

A two-way hoist is a device that is fitted into the boot of your vehicle, it can then lower and raise the scooter or power chair into the vehicle. You would then need to manually guide the chair into the vehicle. Two way hoists are usually fitted for lighter chairs due to you having to push the chair into the car by hand.

Four Way Hoist

A four- way hoist is a small device that is very alike to the two-way hoist, but as well as lowering and raising the scooter into the vehicle, it can also swing the scooter in and out of the car all by remote control. This means that the four-way hoist is better for heavier wheelchairs.

A Telescopic Hoist

On a telescopic hoist, the arm can pick up the wheelchair and load it into the boot of the car in one continuous action.
